Pls help first time encountering ich or white spots

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would try just heat first for a few days (30*c), if it is getting worse then the plecos should be okay with 2-3 tsp/5gallons. That is on the light side of what people use to treat ich.

Oh ok thanks gourami I think il gradually add salt span of three days maybe 40 teaspoons every half day

The salinity should be at minimum 3ppt (parts per thousand) if under 3ppt, osmotic pressure will not be high enough to kill ick. Salinity increases osmotic pressure enough to make the cell walls of newly hatched ick to implode.
That amount of salt for a 325 gal tank, is 10lbs.
The trade off might be, to allow many fish to live thru the ick epidemic, some may not.

It's not yet an epidemic noticed the ich on four juvie severums so far no others have it yet atleast that I can see so that's 135+ teaspoons right so I think il add 65 today then 65 Tommorow give the plecos and smaller juvie sa fighting chance hehe

Here are some fish in a quarantine tank, that came down with ick.

above before salt, a couple days later, after 3ppt salt, and a few degrees rise of heat

cured

The heat hastens the ick reproduction cycle, allowing the salt to get to more vulnerable ick protozoa. As spots on the fish, ick is actually immune to treatment, protected by the fishes slime coat. Osmotic pressure must be there, as each spot explodes into up to 100 new cysts. Only when they first emerge from another state, are they vulnerable.
This is one of the reasons it takes time to rid the tank of it.
