Poly bio load

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I got a few months to a year then I can do something similar and get myself a tank. without the auction pick up I would be in my 75g (it was free) and a 55g and tons of tiny tanks (sold all the little ones now).
Just paid off the car gotta crush cards and a personal loan with the saved payments then I can get a toy or build one. I would like an 84"x36"x16 or 18"..... will hafto be custom made tho :D

Enjoy your toy every father deserves it eventually.
Thx bro... thats exactly what we did paid stuff off (shes working real hard to single handily support the economy on her again) and moved plus im not into stuff like cars or expensive clothes so i figure what hell i deserve it...wife thinks so too hasnt commented at all on the money its costing.

Idk man, when I kept cichla I had 8-9 large fish in a 300g and never had nitrate issues I was usually around 20-40%. I did one 75% wc a week and if I had some extra time I would do two. But I didn't feed heavy, 2-3 times a week. IME they have a similar bioload, it just depends on how much you feed and change water. You wanna talk about heavy bioload, try rays they put out a heavy load.

Hell no i live rays but thats the reason why i will never own any.

Yeah your probably right...my assumptions are based off of the size of my ca/sa relative to what the polys were...plus i do feed the cichlids more often than the polys.. thx for the info man i think i'll be fine if i had a few more polys to the mix of what i have plus the pearsei

If ease of maintenance is your goal I would try to set up a drip and gain the ability to sub out filter socks for filter floss. I'm a giant bum and these have been two huge quality of life improvements. No more topping off, gain lots of time between water changes, gain time between washing socks, and maybe remove manual water changes entirely. If you are setting this up as your long term plan I would at least consider drilling the sump and adding an elbow overflow so you don't have to do it later. Just some things I wish I did before setting up.

The drip is definitly in the plans. I had in mind when i picked the tank location. But need to do some minor renovations in the basement storage room and with the up coming baby and me possibly needing another surgery i'll just be happy to get the tank up and running. I really like the socks though. Pull them out and into a bucket they go. I go between 1 and 2 weeks before having to changing them unless i have time and will do it twice a week. Maybe once a month i'll wash what i've accumulated.

Pearsei and het get fed everyday lately but for the most part every other day. Polys every other day to every 3 days.

Adults cichlids don't have to eat everyday, I only feed 2-3 times a week. The only cichlids that need to eat like that are pretty much eartheaters and dwarf cichlids.

I totally agree with you guys. The past 5ish months they were only being fed once maybe twice a week. Just trying to beef him up with extra food and a large amount of wc's

Weekly water change day tomorrow. I will test and post just prior. 180 g with 13 polys send a p bass. Very overstocked
