** Poly Bite (warning graphic images) **

This thread makes me sad about the poly on poly killings. However I do like that second pic that Vancouver_98683 Vancouver_98683 posted. Poly looks like it is holding a balloon instead of a rope fish. I will pretend that’s what it is. :)

Polyaddict86 Polyaddict86 picture: had the same reaction as FishBeast FishBeast . Literally out loud said:” OH MY GOSH!”

From my experience, I've noticed even if I feed them enough. Some of them will have the natural predator instinct to hunt something live. I've had one bichir starve itself for few days(even tho im feeding daily) just so it can eat one of its tankmate. Luckily, I caught the bichir in action, so I removed the tankmate.

I must admit I have become very scared of polys with other fish
Couple weeks ago my son had to move his male mantilla ray who is about 35cm.. maybe more, as he was harassing the females terribly
Ray was always extremely active playing in the bubbles etc..
Once moved to the community tank with the poly, he was very subdued and unhappy, but at first we thought he was sulking.. he was eating
About a week later, he walked into the house to find ray swimming frantically around and poly holding onto his tail and biting it....
Maybe its just the odd one that does that but.. I don't trust them anymore...

I would say that unless the fish is way bigger in every way its a gamble with any poly. Rays might be big in diameter but they are thin and easy to bite. Same goes for things like dats and angels and discus. Ive had my albino sen latch onto my heckellis fin before, I truly believe that was a case of mistaken identity it was during feeding.

Yes definitely useful information here although disturbing. I think upper and lower jaws can only work till a point where it looks like the smaller lower jaws like sens will become lunch if not moved. If a lower jaw looks like it may fit in the mouth of a lower jaw get it the hell out before its too late.
You do know that LJ can open their mouth like snakes right?

+10 agree, also agree to what twentyleagues twentyleagues about poly being opportunistic, we dont know how fast this fish can digest their food, so any opportunity to eat something will fit their mouth they would.
I used to feed my polys everyday but they still manage to eat the smaller UJ.
