Poly stocking advice needed

Google says palmas palmas. Either way go for it. It will either work or wont. Ornates are hit or miss.
Or just wait for something larger to become available

Are you going to stick with upper jaws or do you want lower jaws eventually?
I'll stick with upper jaws.

The smaller ornate is hanging around the overflow all the time now so I need to do something. I may part with both of them and start over with just the palmas because both ornates are bigger than the palmas I can get.

The other option would be to add the palmas now, hoping that more fish will diffuse aggression.

It's too bad because the bigger ornate is a beauty. I just don't want a one fish tank.

Hmmmm... with the size discrepancy of 14 and 6" I'd worry even if the Ornate was just being a jerk to the Palmas and not actually trying to eat it. Might do some damage quickly.

It's hard to predict with poly aggression. Many times it will settle down with time. More polys can help diffuse aggression but don't always get rid of it. Sometimes a jerk poly is a jerk poly, and Ornates have a bit of a rep.

What are your most desired upper jaws?

They don't tend to grow as quickly as the LJs and tend to slow down once they hit 6-8 inches depending on the species (the smaller ones) and the individual fish. If you have your heart set on certain types you might want to plan ahead and get the smaller ones first. How much room is in the sump? I've never had one, hear about people using them for grow outs but am not clear in how that works with the media in there and everything.

I wonder if Rehoboth might have some larger WC upper jaws for you so you can add them more safely to the tank with the 14" Ornate...

Thanks for the responses. I'd really like to have a delhezi (haven't been able to find any) and one ornate plus a few others of whatever I can find. The palmas has a reputation for being more active according to some of what I've read, so they're on the list too.

I have a space in my sump that's about 20"x17" by 17" height. All that's in there is a large pump that sends the water back to the tank (the media is partitioned off in other sections - it's a 5' long sump). I deliberately created such a big space to use as a time out or grow-out area.

I'm in Canada and I'm not sure Rehoboth will ship to here. I've emailed them a couple of times and never heard back.

I notice that during the day the smaller ornate swims around more. It seems to be just at night it's being cornered off by the overflow. Doesn't look damaged in any way so far.

You made a good choice with upper jaws my friend! Senegals are super active in my experience, between my two scaly sausages there's loads of activity.

Just keep an eye on aggression, I found mine simmered out after a few weeks. Welcome onto the poly train :)
