Polypterus ID help

Hey guys

I just got this guy today. It was sold to me at a Polypterus Ornit. But I'm having a hard time believing it now n think i got jipped.

Is it possible that it'll change its colors later on? It is only 1.5", or are bichirs pretty much born with their colors?

We had a delhezi in my LFS we got in at idk about an inch or so he was really tiny and had awesome pattern. He stood for a while and hit the 4-5 inch mark before we sold him and nearly lost ALL of his pattern... Now I don't know if something else could of caused this but out systems are pristine so it wasn't water quality but I believe they do change patterns/colors as they get bigger.
 
i'm pretty sure it's a sen. They usually sell for 10 bucks regardless the location.
 
I really hope it isnt a sen :( as they are $10 at the store i bought this guy at. You don't see it in the picture but he had little black dots on his body, does that change anything?
