Polypterus in a 75 gallon tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You can get a senegalus, delhezi, palmas, palmas polli, gold dust, moke, and a retro. Not all of them and that depends on the footprint of the 75g.

Senegal, delhezi, retropinnis, mokelembembe, palmas palmas, palmas buettikoferi, palmas polli would all do good in a 75g. Teugelsi, weeksii, and ornate will eventually outgrow your tank. However with a weeksii you may be able to house it for a while as they tend to grow slow. Depending on how much decor, filtration, and tankmates (as well as WC routine, feeding, etc..,) will determine how many you can put in there. 5-6 would probably be a good number, but if you really wanted to 7-8 could be doable. Anything over that may be pushing it.

Man get u a couple endlis if u want them just get the cb ones ... I myself had 10 lj in my 75 gal tank succesfully with no issues ... Now givin like doc b said filtration is key to everything and u will prob have to do extra water changes but it can be done ... I have 7 right now all r 8-17" and is workin just fine for me with the extra work I put in on the tank ...... But that being said 2 endlis ... U will have to uprgrade or get rid of them one day .... Once they r 18" (width of ur tank) they need to be rehomed to a bigger tank ....

I'm not the person to ask on cichlids, not a fan of them haha. There are plenty of smaller species that will work in a 75, but as for aggression or the possibility of them becoming a meal themselves, I couldn't tell ya. My instincts tell me to suggest convicts, they are generally fast enough to avoid being a meal, but I would then worry about them turning out to be aggressive towards the polys. Are you dead set on having cichlids with them? I can make multiple suggestions of other fish that work well.
