Poly's Diet

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I am planning to leave a small piece of tilapia fillet and let see what will happen to the following day.. But I need him to eat even I am around. Once he is in a community I am sure he will starve to death.. hehe

Just an update. He ate 2 pieces tilapia fillet that I left. I wonder why he doesn't want to eat when I am around.

WOW thats great well done:nilly::headbang2

He is still settling into the tank, once he get us to you and your tank and learns that when you are around he gets food, he will come out more,it just takes time

My polys eat everything and anything. You should really get them off feeders (I'm sure a lot of people has said that already) but mine eat most pellets. I feed NLS, Hikari, Omega1 bloodworms and pellets. They also eat shrimp and most fish fillets.

Thanks for the advise guys! well done! Now back to training.. Need to try some pellet but afraid to leave it might get ammonia spike though..

If you put in before you sleep and take it out first thing in the morning it should be fine.

Thanks Divasen.. Now I left 2 pieces of tilapia last nite but unfortunately he didn't eat it. Maybe he's not hungry?

Usually what time do you feed? Do you feed at night? I am having a hard time feeding my ornate. When feeding time he is just there staring. I don't want to left food in the tank. Also how long you store a frozen food? what is the lifespan?

I try to feed my fish in the morning and afteroon, but lately i have been feeding them in the nite between 18h00 and 22h00, i dont have a set time.

Yesterday i gave my fish chunks of bass that i caught on Sunday and some of my poly's didnt eat and the rest eat most of it, i left it over nite and took out abt 5pieces of it this morning. The that i belive that some of my poly's didnt eat it was becuz it was new to them as they are use to eat catfish chunk(which i also caught for my local lake:grinno:). They did the same thing when i first put the catfish chunks in for the first time.

Regarding the frozen food , i have personally kept lance fish/blood worms/hake for abt 2month. The sea fish that i catch and freeze to eat, the rule that i use is that it must not be longer than 3months, i apply the same thing to the food of my fish, if its works for me it sud be ok for them.

OH in the mornings i only feed my fish pellet as i dont have enough time to feed them other things.:naughty:

As for the ornate , im sure that he will starve him self to death, he will come around, dont worry abt it, some of my poly's also dont eat for a few days.

Hope this helps you , hang in there they will learn to eat when you feed them.
