Hey all, haven't been chatting too much lately but I've been lurking. Just wanted to ask you all if you had any ideas for keeping fish alive during potentially extended power outages. With Irma bearing down on my area it's a very real possibility that power might be lacking for a pretty long while.

I've not been able to get ahold of a battery operated pump, LFS's have been sold out and Amazon screwed me with their "guaranteed" delivery not shipping when promised. I guess the polys have a chance since they're obligate air breathers.

My plan at the moment:
Move media into the main display tank once it becomes clear power will be out for a while (and after the UPS fails). Once storm passes hopefully we have water pressure and I can do water changes to attempt to alleviate ammonia buildup in the tank, even if we're under a boil notice fish should be pretty resilient to the kinds of creepy crawlies that typically end up in the water (right?).

I dunno, trying to do the best I can to keep this guys alive, any tips are welcome!

Walmart should have some bait buckets with battery powered air pumps. Walmart has battery powered air pumps as well. Try and maybe you can use that. Get some D batteries and should last 72hrs atleast.

That's an idea... when it comes to the bait buckets, I assume they operate with one end exposed to air in order to push the air into the bucket, how would I be able to adapt that to use in a tank? Is there some kind of hookup I could mcguyver a hose onto?

12v battery should work.

Great thanks! Hopefully they've still got some when I get there. Stores are already starting to close D:
Fingers crossed.

Zilch Zilch I ordered $100 worth of bubblers from amazon prime....but they haven't gotten here yet. If we need to evacuate....I might do the bait bucket idea or put them in 5 gal buckets. Of course have to use a separate 5 gal bucket for the mean moke.
Did you like the bait buckets? How much do they cost?

kno4te kno4te suggested to move my tank away from the windows. Trying to decide what to do after that.if I want to try to take it with me or leave it here.

Stay safe poly friends.
