Polys in the Storm!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Guys there are old threads on here about power outages. Check stickies in general area and filtrationdont remember where they are.

I remember reading how one guy just used a large cup or so.ething and poured tank water every few hrs to agitate the surface and keep the water oxygenated.

Did fine. Made it out without any prob. Didn't lose power.

Air for polys isnt going to be the problem it's going to be the ammonia build up. I don't think just agitation of the water will be enough to help with that. Maybe a ammonia reducing product? I'm not sure. I bought a generator when I had salt. We lost power during a winter storm and they didn't expect power back for up to 3 days. I went out and bought the last one Lowes had on the shelf 6500 watts cost me around $900. But with thousands of $ in coral and fish that would die without heat or flow I didn't hesitate. Power was back on 6 hrs later.....lol. Hope it comes back on for you soon. Water changes? How's the temps there?

Increase the water changes. That'll help to bring in new water and oxygen.

Power just came back on after 40 hours. Polys seem fine but they'll be getting a monster water change in the morning to be sure. Other tanks faired pretty well... Lost a couple live bearers in our 55g, but they didn't have any oxygen supplement since I couldn't find a third bait bucket air pump.

As for the humans we did fine, lost a huge tree in our back yard and it's going to cost a fortune to clear out but if that's the worst thing that came of this storm I'll take it!
