Portabuddy's Acrylic Coffee Table Crab Enclosure

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I didn't read the hole thread so don't shoot me if this has already been said. I think you should put a neck on it and call it the guitar tank looks great though.

HAHA, it dose look like a guitar, but i was going for a island shape. its close to what it was supposto look like. but i like the new shape a bit better, its also bugger, i only needed 94" for the curcumfrance but, i got 96 just in case, so its 2" longer and that seems to make a bigger differace then i though, but the base is big enough to accomodate the bigger diamiter. i always get more then i need and end up just making it bigger...

I ended up useing 10mm acrylic for the look, but it bit me in the but. if i had made it from a thinner acrylic like1/8 then it would have cost half as much. but i didnt want it being and looking cheap. nothing thin looks good.

the top edge is rounded because it seems to be the best finish to put on it. the bottom is also 10mm and it will be routed to be about 0.5"-0.75" bigger then the walls, to give it a lip. im not sure what kind of finish to guve that?, maybe like a bullnosed edge?.

I'll go to the hardware store in a few days and pick out a router bit i like. and now i need to make a jig to rout the bottom piece of acrylic.?,

i don't know what type of waterfall your goin for but i was thinking you could probably just buy one of those tabletop tranquility fountains? (i know its not DIY but the waterflow is already measured) i used a gargoyle one for a pond for a couple months for feeders :)

why would anyone have 3 heat guns. man your tool collection must be OTT lol

^^ hahaha, i bough the other two, they where $15 each, and im thinking of keeping them, its really usefull. i painted a valve cover for my car and baked it with the three guns, they are awsome... and im quite proud of my tool collection. just look at my basement, this is the laundry room and it has a table saw in it...???

oregonian, i thought about it, but that wont filter the waste from the water... i have lots of rocks and lots of spair parts to make one, and if it fails, no biggie. not like i paid for the powerheads or foam? its all free. besides see myself changing the decor every few months.

here is a picture that i drew up at work that will show what i want to do.

the botome will over hang the upright piece about 1" all the way around the parimmiter of the "playpen"(thats what im calling it), then a thin blue translucent band will go around the edge to cover small imperfectios and any discoulorations that the sand might cause, although the sand will be 4" in some areas.

no, i bought a router a few years back and only used it like 5 times, any excuse is good enough for me :D, i just need to get a proper bit for it. the problem with sanding is that i can sand for 3-4 houes and get a uneaven finish or run a router over it and be done with it in a few seconds.
