Post LFS OVER PRICED FISHs

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
great thread.. wow there are some crazy prices.. with AU leading the pack by far! Man I feel for you guys over there. You prolly have some of the best animals on the planet locally, but anything thats not from there is a small fortune. If I lived tehre think I would have to catch my own.

Just a idea, you guys think there would be any way to set up a price list of high demand fish that gives ball park amounts for new guys (US Only?)? Just a thought. There are always alot of questions like is such and such fish a good price at my LFS. Maybe it could help give those guys a decent price guide?

2 6inch silver arowanas in a ten gallon tank, fins shredded, one already had drop eye, tail fin sections gone, and one swimming with its face in the corner going no where....$100

Good Haggling skills...Priceless

i was in a RIDICULOUSLY overpriced LFS and posted a thread on another forum regarding this issue.

i saw a 10" oscar w/ a price tag of $250, 13" JAG for $450, amoung others.

I'm still new to monster fish so i gonna have to learn what the price should be around. But i would definitley be suspicious of a 10 dollar cardinal.

They might just overprice some fish to keep those less responsible or noobish people from buying them.

that is crazy, just buy a 1" oscar for $5, wait 9 months and you have a 10" oscar

i have a LFS near me thats had 2 15-18" black pacu for months living in a 500g with a channel cat. think they want like $125 for the pacu

Good idea, however for people like me who have a huge store such as RMS nearby, the prices are obviously going to be lower (even more so bc half the time they are having sales on top of it), same goes with tanks in Socal. If we do a ballpark range, it will have to be max price to pay, as I noticed fish cost more in Erie, but it is more because of less competition and the location isn't that of say Cleveland, where I have like 15 stores within 15 minutes of my house.

True true.. but I guess a max price would be a good place to start. Anything to help guide guys that are new or help people out with unfamilar species.

I just had the smoke and mirrors some shops blow. Gives the rest of the honest shops bad names and alienates educated fishkeepers.

5-6 inch florida/spotted gar $75 (I bought it)
3-4 inch common wolf fish $$70 (bought it too)

8-9 inch Black Aro $399 (I did not buy this, bought my 2.5 inch for $50 3-4 years ago)
2-3 inch Leich Aro $349 (I did not buy this either, bot my 2-3 inch for $65 each form Rich)
