great thread.. wow there are some crazy prices.. with AU leading the pack by far! Man I feel for you guys over there. You prolly have some of the best animals on the planet locally, but anything thats not from there is a small fortune. If I lived tehre think I would have to catch my own.

Catching your own would be cheaper, including fuel to get there. Just 2 days ago, I went toone of my favourite LFS for cichlids, and they had a native Sooty Grunter at just a foot or so for $120. But they also had a 10" awesome looking Jag for $60. STEAL.

$5.00 for male guppies, and $3.50 for females. A 2' silver arowana for $350. A 1' RTC for $140. $180 for an 18" pleco. That's $10 per inch. the most expensive thing that I've seen in this fish store is a 2' paroon shark selling for a whopping $1700!!! I have a feeling that that paroon shark will be there a while.

i think that price for a 4 inch gulper is about right.
i got 3 baby dorados for a few bucks.
the store owner got them traded in and didnt know what they were.
they died when i came back from canada....
ive seen neon tetras for 5 bucks....

Most people dont realise how hard running a LFS is and what may seem to be outrageous prices to some are in fact quite reasonable when running a 7 day a week, 12 hour a day business. Livestock is a risky business that isnt insured.

Correct.....So why is PetSmart charging $19.99 for 2 inch Blood Parrots....Standard prices in local shops is $2.99-9.99....I respect PetSmart for their puppy dog section, it is awsome....But the prices on fish are off track....Compare to the mom and pop lfs around me, PetSmart is a Big chain...You would have to think their fish stock would be almost wholesale price.....
