I would like to know the basis for this "fact."

well as several other members have discussed already, the jury is still out on what constitutes truth and fact. MFK is not really the place to discuss epistemology. For a better discussion of "facts" I would recommend a book by Hegel entitled "Phenomenology of the Mind."

The suggestion that pygos should be kept in groups of no less than four is as much fact as anything related to fish keeping is. This is a posteriori. Pygocentrus piranhas are characins that live in shoals, like most shoaling characins a group of 4 is considered the minimum number for providing the social environment and behavior for a shoal of fish.

Also continuing with Piranha, don't buy them because you think you will have ultra aggressive fish that murder anything that goes near the water. They actually tend to be more on the skittish side.

yeah well they're not as exciting as some other fish, but they have their redeeming qualities for people that aren't overly concerned with having feeder genocide in their tanks. Maybe yours were lame because you kept less than four?

No that's the thing I have 5 and they do alright. I'm just saying you said they all should be kept in groups of four and I'm just saying my group of 5 isn't having any problems.

Aquarium fish live in their toilet so flush it once in a while; change water often!

Always listen to what other people tell you. b/c if they can't get it to work for them then what the hell makes you think it will work for you...... (sarcasm)

Goldfish bowls are for Holding candy... Not fish. Or maybe for holding loose change so you can buy a fishtank? =D and thats my oppinion, which at a guess more then 1/2 the hobbyists here would agree with ;) But don't take my word for it, I could be wrong!
