What a shame that a person can afford a $1K fish but cannot afford a bigger tank to properly house the fish.:banhim: I still would have a platinum endli than that. That's just my opinion.
the video was shot at a fish show, hence the small tank...
anyway, a wild Pbb from East Africa would cost way more than $1K in japan, probably because those fish have never been sold by Africa fish suppliers.

i didn't post the video, so no need to thank me, but you're welcome anyway :D

i too prefer a Pbb over a platinum endli. Don't get me wrong, a platinum endli is very nice too.

Up until recently (after the P bichir bichir was bred) wild fish were going for $10K or more. Even now a wild P bichir bichir will still set you back $5K. I would rather have a P bichir bichir.

Why look at pictures when you can watch a video! :D

lovin' the pattern :headbang2

(im still stuck on getting some endlies.)
forgot to mention earlier, the pattern of this one in the video is actually atypical compared to the rest that i've seen imported into japan.

I would rather keep $5K or $10K in my saving so you guys are welcome to fight over the rarest bichir bichir in the WHOLE WIDE WORLD.:D I'll just sit back and enjoy my  watch you guys fight over it or debate how rare it is.
don't worry, no one will be fighting over those. i doubt those will make it out of japan, if they're even available. if one ever does, it'll probably be headed out of japan for a specific buyer, so no fighting there :D again i'm talking about the wild ones from East Africa.

now if there's ever a fish supplier in East Africa that can collect and supply them, thats a different story, and of course in that case, it won't cost as much.

and yes i'm astounded that platinum endli is still costing that much, and especially for ones that have deformity, ranging from bent dorsal fins to weird head or body etc., which seems to happen quite often. and i get the feeling many of those are from Indo farms, though i don't know for sure. Anyway, i was told that in japan they're still in the 2-5K range for a smallish one depending on quality.

Considering this thread was supposed to be for pics of P. bichir bichir it has so far failed!!

Interesting discussion though, so the key features that distinguish P. b. bichir is the shape of the head (how does it vary?), the number of dorsal finlets and the growth rate/size. They are beautiful fish, but I'm not sure about the crazy high prices. I'd possibly pay $1k for one, if it could be guaranteed to be true and not a lap), but I dont think I could ever pay more than that for any fish. Surely they'll become more common in the trade if they're being bred in captivity?

I suppose dreaming has its merits too...
