To me it is amazing how attached we can get to animals and how the animals who seem the least likely to make good pets become good pets.. you brought a tear to my eyes..because that was a very tender story..

Lou-anne was an awesome pet. I know some people think "why, it was just a stupid duck", but she was more then that. She had a lot of personality and everyone I showed her to was amazed at her. When she grew up, she would still come when I called her and fly up to our house and land on our patio looking to be fed and scratched on the chest. She can never be replaced. Thats what some pets mean to us.

Oh yeah, for the guys: the laidies love to hear about you saving and raising a poor, cute, fuzzy little animal. Use it to your advantage, lol!

Hey chad55, do you raise Bobwhites for release? I wanted to raise them because they are native to where I live, yet I have never seen one. I even built a Bobwhite recall pen. I hear their mortalilty rank is very high for released birds. Pen raised ones I guess have a very hard time adapting back to the wild.

We have and they have actually done very well. We here them and see them all the time in the place that we released them and actually captured a group of 20 or so there. We never used to see them there before but they come around now. BUT what we did was let them go wild as they pleased. We opened up the pen and just let them go and we kept food and water in the cage. They stuck around for a while then eventually they took to their own and about 2 months later or so we wouldn't see them around the pen anymore.

i raised some geese once when we had our larger farm.. i had a few geese hatch where they could not stand up.. their legs would just do a split.. i thought we would have to put them down.. but i took sandpaper and taped it to the bottom of their feet.. to give them a grip.. and with in a few days their muscles in their legs were strong enough so they stood up straight and they were normal...

My friend is in charge of hatching out something like 2000 pheasants and partridges and they are kept on corregated cardboard to help them stand up.

I tried what you did with Chukar Partridges before. They left but weren't very smart about staying hidden during the day. They kind of stick out when they are in the open. We used to find them pecking around our barn during the day like chickens.
