I don't think food plays any part in the colour I have very pale skin and if I just ate carrot I don't think my skin would turn red

But if I went out in the sun for a long time yes it would turn red

Just like if my mother or father had darker skin I would also have darker skin

Colour is down to genetics and light nothing more unless you are a flamingo :D

you just contradicted yourself???.. flamingos get their pink color from eating shrimp that are high in carotene. Same with aro's, feed them mostley Frozen krill and they get a very intense red color in the fins and scales

Actually, if you ate only carrots your skin may turn yellow-red. Look up the condition of carotenemia.

My juvenile would eat only live crickets (gut loaded on fresh carrots) and frozen krill and he's a bright pink-ish color. I tried getting pics the other night but none came out too well with my current light setup. I'll switch lights this weekend and try to get a few pics!

Fortunately(or color-wise, unfortunately) he started eating hikari carnivore sticks a few days ago. Started eating them without any issue after dropping them in. :)

mines are sub-adults (adults ... cos i dont think they are gonna grown some more). two still retain some pink/reddish outline around the scales and fins

PS: have not taken pictures of my fish in ages

where are all the 30"+ aros?

here's mine at 30", he's a bit bigger now, but mostly bulking up these days.... fish has shoulders!!! pics are from late last year, I'll try to update soon... lots of pink/red in person, pics don't do him justice.
