The whole idea sounds reasonable to me. The seams will be a bit odd to make it work, but you should be good.

I figure I would just reassemble it the way the old 125's were except the bottom piece would be floating. I would not put the sides on the bottom piece of glass, the side panels would fit around the bottom piece of glass. I know, easier said thank done!

I would build the stand first, then put the 6X6 foot bottom piece of glass down on the stand. Then put the 4 side pieces from the old 125's around the bottom. Some kind of jig would be built to support the side panels for gluing.

Glue.

Then assemble the "euro bracing"

Glue

Let dry for a week or so then fill with water

See, easy!

Ahhhh.....totally missed the 72 x 71 part. The seams should go together as normally done.

Get started and then post some pics!

I wouldnt use glass as the bottom, i'd fibreglass a sheet of plywood with small ledges for the glass to sit in..... Saves you a ton of money and still looks good and functions the same.

I like this idea! Wont be as heavy also! I can work on the fiberglass out side in the garage. Right on! This is totally do-able :)

You have pequed my interest.

Often thought if it's possible to convert multiple small tanks into big ones (6x2x2 + 4x2x2 + 6x4 sheet = 360gal. result!) look forward to seeing what results you get if you go ahead with it.

Ive thought about it too- but not a 6'x6'- I think youd have more options where to put it with a pair of 6'x3' tanks instead, unless your doing a ray tank-
the fiberglass bottom is a great idea, so great that you should probably be starting on it now so we can see some pictures along with a progress report by dinner time tonight!

LOL - Yeah I'm the same way, the more pictures the better :)

6X3 or 6X4 would be great but I have four 6 foot pieces of glass with the two 125 gallon tanks I just bought! I have a 10 X 12 foot spare bedroom also................

I guess I could just cut the glass but bigger is always better :naughty:
