Potential Tank mate for Green Terror

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have actually been looking to get one i just have to get one of a decent size so he doesn't get eaten by my GT cause the only ones ive seen are like 1 inch long and that's about the same size as the worms he gets as treats.
75 gal is to small for a Senegal bichirs do. If you really wane add something I would keep it at a l-number. Then don't really stay in the same waterlevels and l-numbers can take a beating if necessary. Any other fish will probably get to big or there will be fights.

With a 75 gallon tank, you are very limited, with adding other cichlids, I would think you could add a couple of Convicts two males or two females, do not add a female and male convict, it would be trouble when breeding... IMO you could get away with that provided you have a good aquaplaning (caves and wood that convicts can move around the Green Terror).

interesting i'll look into adding some convicts and see if thats something I'd want to do. Thanks for the suggestion!

Yes I think you would be more satisfied with the Convicts, they would be active as well as your Green Terror :) Just make sure the Convicts are the same gender.

While others may have had success with it, im gonna advise against adding convicts in that size tank. Cons grow fast and can be quite territorial, downright nasty even. Pair that with a feisty male green terror and at the very least there will be frequent squabbling and fin tearing in that small of a tank. Adding a breeding pair of mature cons would very well be a death sentence for a gt.

I am not suggesting a breeding pair, I have done it, in a 75 gallon tank, yes there would be squabbling, but if the green Terror is bigger that the convicts, he will manage to over rule the convicts and therefore you would have a lot of activity in the tank, convicts would learn to move accordingly...

that doesn't really sound like a happy fish tank.

At the moment I have a 180 gal tank with a dozen Andianoacara. Because they were all added about the same time, territorial disputes were relatively mild, although the alpha male drove 3 similar sized males right out of the tank.

So consider what your alpha owner of a tank as small as a 75 gal,(i consider a 75 a relatively small tank for anything but the smallest cichlids) will do to a cichlid it considers a new interloper and competition.
In truth, I consider my 180 small, and plan on reducing the cichlid population.
I believe if you had added the cichlids all the same day, they may have worked the tank out, but add one and giving it enough time to establish sovereignty is a recipe for getting either the new one, or the GT (if not tough enough) killed.
Let us know the outcome, if you decide to tempt fate.

I’ve never heard of that fish before so I googled it and it’s a very interesting fish I just hope I’ll be able to find one in my area!(I’m bad at keeping fish that I get through the mail)
They should be a cheap fish. Well, they are in Dallas, anyway.
