  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I know...I don't want to have a lot of them though. If I could get away with just 2 I would. But, from what I'm told, 2 isn't such a hot idea, and so I may get 3, but if one gets eaten, I'll be back to 2 again, and really no place to order it from where I won't get charged out the patooty for it, OR risk getting a fish being too big or too small for my others.

Congrats on your new fish, If they are about 3" than you could fit more than one in a 10 gallon tank.

And I love how you say it will only be in there for a couple weeks, but everyone seems not not read this and flame you anyway.

I agree with you. As long as she is getting an upgrade, the ten is just a growout tank. I would do a trio of them. Just keep them well fed and they should be ok.

Thanks, do my neon tetras count as well fed? :D

I hope three is a good enough number, I really can't see myself wanting 5 or 6 this quickly after I have begun, that's like piling your plate full when you only wanted a small snack.... Hooray for metaphores!! lol!

Hopefully, I can find some tetras that aren't so delicious for when I upgrade them, I ALMOST have my fiance talked into a 50-55. Would 3 fit in there ok? Or should I really use the 75?

I'm not sure on that because I've heard of 3 being fine in a 50-55 and three only working in a 75+

Could I put pachus and silver dollars in there? or just other types of piranhas?

No pacus, no silver dollars. Eventually they will get it. You can only house other pygo's with him or keep him solitary. A lot of people will say red bellies don't work well as solitary specimens but it just takes time. Some longer then others (some way longer). I don't know if you've already read this but 2's tend not to work well because one will usually try to dominate over the other. 3 or more they will "tolerate" each other a lot better. That being said, I've seen a ton of RBP tanks holding pairs without issue. But they are always about the same size. Start early now trying to get your fish to accept Hikari cichlid gold pellets. The earlier you start this the better and the red will show up nicely. Its a pain in the ass trying to get older piranha's who are trained to eat certain foods to take new foods especially pellets.

If I put a pair in a 75, do you think I would have a problem making it work? I'll probably just get 3, to be safe. But if I could somehow get 2 to work, I'd rather go that route.

I think our LFS will get them in the same size Whiplash is.

I'm not making it a regular point to feed live food, for a show of aggression. That's not why I got my RBP. I got him because I am intruiged by him. And I would love to include a couple of exotic fish to my home, I'm just glad I picked something unusual...My fiance said they'll be the main display in our living room once we move!! :D

I will DEFINATELY try the cichlid pellets.

They have all the good stuff he needs besides color enhancers? Or will I need to supplement? I know I should anyways for variety, but just making sure that that food has enough vitamins and minerals for a happy fishy!!

Thanks!

Your filter doesn't stir it all up and make it cloudy?
