Predator Tank Questions

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
We don't really have a budget, but we have established that the 125 is the tank we want to use. We would though like to keep going with the idea of a predator tank. We are for sure though that we would like a tea cup sting-ray at least. Making a list would be very helpful to us.

The stingray won't work unfortunately as cool as it would be a 125 simply isn't a suitable tank. The floor space of the tank is just not large enough to house a stingray long term.

I can't imagine you don't have some form of a limit on your budget? Shoot if you don't have a budget then why not use a larger tank with sump? If you can get w 300 gallon the stingray would become an option.

We kind of have a budget, but then again we don't. He has an idea about where everything's going to be, but hes letting us get about whatever. And we are sticking with the 125 because its the only space we have once the room is done and the area they gave us.

So what are you even being graded on? But yeah, the stingray won't work. Being called teacup is just a marketing ploy, they still grow to a large size.

This just seems like an irresponsible and weird school project.

Ya teacup only means they are small compared to the other rays. They still reach about 14" in disc alone and a 125 is only 18" deep.

Ya so we are going to need a dollar amount because we can quickly rack up a tab in the thousand plus dollar range...

Also what is your grade dependent on? We can better help you if we know what it is we are trying to achieve.

Right now we have about like 900 on most the stuff besides fish and the food and some other supplies. He hasn't really told how we are getting graded. All we really need is what types of fish would go good together in this predatory tank. That's our main issue at this point. We have already tested the pH balance from different places in our school to get the water. Our teacher knows how to do each tank, but he wants us to do the research and everything. Its giving us an experience most of us wouldn't ever have.

I wouldn't worry too much over PH. I would start out by getting your substrate, rocks, driftwood, plants if you're going that route. Then you need to figure out heating and filtration and get your tank cycling. After all of that is done you can start deciding on fish.

We have to figure everything out before we get everything. We have to take it to the board to get approved.

Why don't you start researching fish that can live in a 125? A lot of suggestions have been made. But if you have 900 total for fish, filters, substrate, decorations, lighting...that can all take a large chunk of that. Is the tank cycling yet?
