Please consider euthanasia.... its better than animal abuse.
The filter you have on the gold fish tank is about 1/10 the size of the filter you need. No wonder the water looks like death soup.

How would you like to sit in a bathroom with however many other guys where the air only changes 1 time an hour?
Its a harsh reality when you learn what it takes to properly house big beautiful fish... but its cruel to just ignore their requirements.
Oh and by the way, you're going to need to let your tank cycle before you put fish in it.
Listen to these people they know theyre stuff and are helpful.
Welcome to real fishkeeping by the way.
kdrun76;3441546; said:Ageing water does NOT cycle it. It takes weeks of the filter being exposed to fish waste to fully cycle it. The bacteria are not in the water, they are in the filter. They won't grow in the filter unless the filter is exposed to fish waste. An empty tank sitting is NOT cycling. Its just sitting.
You are letting the water age? Is old water better than new water?
Swearing at the people trying to help you and telling us to shut up is probably not in the best interest of your fish, we are trying to help you. You are clearly struggling and not understanding why you are having troubles. I am sorry you don't like the answer to your question.
