Problem with bluergill and green sunfish fighting

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Glad you go them in that slightly larger tank that is already too small for them. I guess something is better than nothing. It will only be a short time before your fish try to duke it out again though. Sunfish are very aggro, I keep a longear with the likes of Texas and midas cichlids and it more than holds it own at only 2/3 their size.

Also, it appears you didn't upgrade your filteration, you have a crappy 10 gallon filter on that tank. Your fish are suffering whether you think so or not.

Please remember that many many people here are very experienced with PROPPER fish keeping techniques. Learn from them, don't cuss them out. Act like that you won't be around here for long.

a 20 long is plenty big enough for 2 sunfish that are less than 6" long, and the flitration could be upgraded a bit on all the tanks but for the catfish dilema, i would leave it in the 55, and in the 20 i would add more hiding holes so there would less time when they see eachother and if they don't see eachother they won't fight

This was intended to be a joke right? There is nothing adequate about a 20 gallon tank for even one sunfish, let alone 2 of them.

are the sunfish and blue gill males?
if so you may need a female sunfish and a female blugill or you need places for the fish to hide under.

There fighting because the tank isnt big enough.

I Have a green sunfish and its bad

Sorry for double post but you guys can probably lay off a little on the filter thing. If you just do a lot of WC you will be fine

I am going to get another filter, that one is temporary. Btw, i may get a 200 instead of a 100 from a friend. If so the cat will go in there.

no it was not, i didn't mean for life but it is suitable for 2 sunfish until they reach about 6-7"

I am sorry, but this makes me laugh. A 20gallon Long is only 30 inches long. If we presume these 6" fish that you are suggesting are ok in this tank are backed right tight to opposing ends, there is only 18" between them! Each fish gets a territory that is only 15" long, if they sat centered within their territory there would only be 8" between them. Keep in mind that these are very aggressive and territorial fish. You are trying to suggest that fish that can't even get 2' apart from each other are going to get along?!?!!!???

Wow, ignorance is abundant!
