Well it official I suck at resealing!! Third time at laying a new seal, tank was re leveled the pink Styrofoam was cut to fit inside of bottom frame supporting bottom pane of glass. It set for a week for RTV 108 to cure, and I have a very tiny dripping leak!! I've found out a few things I can't lay a decent looking bead of silicone to save my life, and I hate resealing tanks. It has leaked maybe 6-8 ounces in about three hours, and I still haven't decided what my next move is yet. Pretty discouraged at this point I going to have a beer and sleep on it to decide what my next move is. It sure looked good filled all the way, curse you water leaks!!!

That sucks man.

Try to find out where it is leaking. If your lucky, maybe you'll only have to redo the secondary seals (inside of tank), and not the primary seals (in between panes of glass).

Well still haven't decided my next move yet, still pretty discouraged. I think I'm ready to give it one more shot. I was talking to an older gentleman at a fish warehouse and he told me he has seen small leaks fixed with water in the tank and a dab of silicone. Sounds crazy if you ask me.
 
Tank is stripped CLEAN re selaed with rtv AGAIN!! Will let it sit this week to cure, I'm haveing a steel frame built to surround bottom trim. Will test fill again next weekend.. Update next weekend.
 
Yeah I suck at making a nice pretty bead too so dont feel bad. I think that part of the problem youre having is the same problem i had resealing one of my tanks. When it was half filled it seemed fine. Once it was completely filled there was more weight/pressure and then there is more flex in the glass. That opens up little gaps in the silicone. I did what the guy told you. After I did my initial seal and let it cure I ran another bead and filled it up. I think as the tank flexes the silicone gets pulled into the gaps. I didnt leave it full of water though. after a few minutes I drained it again and let it seal dry. after that I had no problems - just a real ugly sealing job that I had to cover with gravel lol
 
Man! I razor blade everything, and keep changing blades so that its always sharp, even the edge of the glass! One thing silicone doesn't stick to is silicone. Its painstaking but I've had 100% success rate on 12 tanks. Also seal inside just after putting tank together, you have about a 20 min window. And oh yea, never give up! Good luck.
 
Tomorrow is the day steel frame is done, tank will be set in tomorrow and test filled again...(will update pics) I hope this time works even though the sad part is this is just a temp setup as the monsters will outgrow this in a short time. Then starts a huge plywood build. :cheers:
 
That's a lot of dedication Mustang.

There's a way to seal that tank; just gotta find it. I know this is a bit late in the game, but if you have to retry, try using clamps on the joints. I know a lot of guys that use clamps on larger tanks.

Keep us updated, I want to see that tank in action.

Tank is full so far so good. Will update next weekend as long as it makes it.
