OMG this is a train wreak about to happen, this tank is a nightmare about to happen. If the top just pops off like that believe me the rest can pop apart like that also ,not prepped right, and not glued right,t top is also not braced right, this tank bad news .Any body that tells you gluing or as it is called welding this is a piece of cake let them get a hold of me here and we can debate it.SORRY you can not reseal a acrylic tank buy putting number 4 like water thin solvent around or #16 or 2 part 40.different cast acrylics and there thickness determines the glue. I have fixed other crap acrylic jobs with minor leaks with a square acrylic rod and 40 but with this tank, put frogs or a snake in it.

Sorry did not mean to come of that way ,I have been in the acrylic and tank building business a long time ,I do get agitated when I see shoddy builds .I do and have liked to educate people on acrylic tanks as there is not much good info out there. Held water a full fifteen years HMM. ok next problem that can be encountered with holding water that long than sitting in the heat like a garage is swelling and shrinkage,[ a cheap acrylic ,not all acrylic is created equal,] will make the seams pop apart when you fill it with water.AS for the top you never cut angles in the corners you make them rounded sorry a middle brace would also ad strength to a tank that I bet this tank has a hell of a bow when full of water.Sorry I am not trying to make you feel bad I would like to help you out, don't want to have you end up with a room full of water

I went back and looked at the photos ,maybe I was out of line.Sorry guy I would not set that tank up in my ex bosses house. who ever made that tank should be slapped. That tank should be at least 1inch thick 36x36 x65 also that top was glued wrong and the sides were cut wrong that were to be glued to the top.acrylic done right just dosent come apart

Make sure you're homeowners insurance covers floods. This has "nightmare" written all over it.

While I imagine that my red name protects me from the worst of it, I suspect that this crap is a taste of why so many new people on this forum tend to become quickly disheartened and shirk off back to Facebook. This is why we're losing our ever so valuable noobs. This is why we're rotting from the inside out. No matter how good something may taste, the first time you bite into a piece of crap, you tend to avoid it after that. It is a shame too, considering the VAST majority of our members are the best kind of people who are happy to help.

Criticism has a valid place in any discourse, no one would argue that. But negativity for the sake of negativity? It seems as though the Golden Rule is becoming as rare as common sense.

For the vast majority of people who have commented on this thread positively, I thank you. For those who have pointed out my mistakes and guided me in the right direction, I thank you even more. For those who would just pop into the thread and drop a negative comment with no thought or insight on how to correct the issue? Well, Mama always said "if you don't have anything nice to say..."

You said it all buddy. I'm just watching to learn and keeping my comments to myself. I save all my negativity for the mutant flowerhorns.

What's the point of asking for advice if you only listen to what you want to hear?

I hear what you're saying Rob. Most of the time I can hold my tongue, but there are days when it is difficult not to question the point of certain people comments.

However, in a effort not to further derail your thread from its original topic, I am excited about the tanks new dimensions. Great call Poppa! killed two birds with one stone with that idea! I imagine you need relatively specific equipment to cut this properly though.

Also, with the tank in pieces, it will be much easier to buff out the imperfections. While the idea of resealing a tank that size would make me nervous, I'm excited to watch this come to fruition.

Keep on posting brother. The good on this forum still outweighs the bad.

I say, while you're cutting down the tank.. get some plywood.. extra 2x4s... some sealant... :D

You're a really bad influence.

MFK, if a tank is 30" tall and 4' front to back, what would be the largest width of window I could have with 9/16th inch acrylic? I have the option of two 48" windows or three 32" windows....

I was going to let this go you guys did not get my intention.Chicxulub I in no way meant to offend you I was not trying to hate on you but was trying to send a strong message, I saw a problem there and did not want to see you with a room full of water. I get it no one likes the guy saying your tank sucks and I will take the rap.I never said it was unrepairable and did offer to help. For you to say I am what is wrong with this forum, with my negativity is bull .I spoke the truth funny how every thing I said is the truth look it up. It is also amazing to me how wetday or what ever he calls himself can come out and call me a liar and attack me when he sat through 4 pages of this thread and did not say one word of the problems with this tank ,but could give me schooling on how things don't last forever, and how he sniffs weld on 40, and he blows his own horn on how he is a master 450 gallon acrylic repair master. Not to mention he thinks all fish rooms leak ,good luck with black mold and smell. I am sorry I came across to coarse. I don't hand out rainbows and lollipops. I hand out the truth, weather it is hard I apologize but I do and will offer help. I am glad it is working out for you that was all my intention. As for the other tank builder who build the 180 in 85 no dimensions or size and if you build it back then you should of learned something buy now and should have seen the potential problem and have taken my, side shame on you. As for the other guy saying 1 inch over build go look up the specs genius.
