Project Car

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've got an S2000 as a DD. I've driven STI, EVO, Cobras, S4, etc, and nothing really does it for me. I fell in love with the S2000 when they came out a few years ago and have dreamed of one ever since. Finally a few months ago a friend found one for sale. We got the ball rolling and next thing you know, I've got a white S2000 in my driveway.

If this 240sx comes to fruition, it will be a stripped street car. Bare bones radio, buckets, roll cage, etc. My main motivation behind this project is to test myself, honestly. I took it upon myself to learn to weld at age 14. At age 17 I apprenticed a chassis fabricator in the area. It's not something I want to spend the rest of my life doing, but its something I'm passionate about. I've been building racing motors (granted singly cylinder ATVs) for the last 2 years. A car is the epitome of talent. I just want something I'm proud of. The S2000 is, well, stock, and relatively unassuming. I've got big plans but no money.

Eric...that blacktop SR motor is sex. What trans did your friend run behind it?

Ethnics nice car, s13 coupe is my fav s13 and love the front. Glad to see it makes it to drift duty.

Sounds like a fun project. But $15,000 sounds tight depending on how in depth you end up getting with the car. My Mustang started out as a daily driver. $80K and four years later, I'm still not done and keep upgrading stuff.

Ethnics, amazing car. Love the front end. Im looking for a s13 coupe myself but cant find one worth buying.

when it comes to lil jap cars. its cheap. you can make a unbelievable car for a very low price... 15k limit is a lot of money and im sure you don't evne need that. i can break everything down for you to give you guys an idea on what it takes to have fun in an s13...

car: 2k tops, spend less on a chassis since your swappin the motor anyway, i only paid 1,700
front end: 750
suspension: 1k
Front clip for sr20 swap: 2,200
diff if you get a 2way: 1,200 maybe way less, im just over pricing. you can use a welded diff for like 100 bux.

thats only: 7,150 at an over priced spending limit. this can be achieved at a much lower cost if you shop around...

now if you wanna get technical on smaller things, depending on what you are gonna use the car for, you an leave the car at that or step it up to fine tuning adjustable suspension pieces:

Rear upper control arms: 150ish
inner toe: 150ish
tension rods: 150ish
subframe spacers: 75ish
wheels, atleast 17x9ish: 360-450 depending on if your cheap like me, you can easily spend 1k on some wheels if you go with something like gernades or fn01rc 4lug or 5lug will affect this cost aswell.

now u spent 8,125 and this is still an over priced cost and you have a beast of a ride. an outstanding street car. you can still step it up...

upgrade ur turbo to say a gt2860rs (disco potato) which is a direct bolt on so no need for a new manifold, runs around 900 or so sometimes more if you go completly brand new.
fmic if you go custom can be around 400 bux for everything, that will include the intercooler, all ur piping/U-bends, couplers, t-bolt clamps.

bringing your total to around $9,425. last but not least, throw in a roll cage so you can do ultimate events and tandem n what not and your total will sit at about 10k for EVERYTHING. and that is still an overpriced estimate.

ethics...thanks for taking the time to break everything down, I really appreciate it. I guess I'll keep my eyes peeled for a body and motor.

I would just like to point out that ethnics did a good break down. In fact makes me want to build another car. But there will always be the things that nickel and dime you to death that you didn't factor in price.
