People don't realise theres more to FMs than their appearance... They are just about the most characterful cichlids I know.

You can keep the fry with the parents a long time and they tend to do better in earlier life if kept with their mum and dad.
I've been meaning to get firemouths. But I want a proven pair. Most of the FM's around me look sick and ugly.
I have two FMs, both around 3.5 inches. I'm not sure of the sex. Is a 40 gallon breeder tank big enough for a pair for life?
Yes most look poor quality and emaciated with very little red coverage... I'm hoping to breed out the best qualities of my fish to get the reddest largest Firemouths.... I look to the example of the guy breeding the Pyro Trimacs... he's dedicated a large part of his life to quality of his favourite species.

Like I say it's very rare in Firemouths these days to have as much red in the face so I'm hoping to use their best offspring to breed with the best offspring of the redder bodied Firemouths in this particular spawning.
