You can keep the fry with the parents a long time and they tend to do better in earlier life if kept with their mum and dad.

i had them with the parents for about two months. they were 1/2 an inch when i moved the perents

awesome! I'd love to see the changes per generation. thanks for committing your time and effort for others like myself to see.

My breeding male is 4" body length and about 15 months old... his mate is about 2.5" body length and about 10 months old.

FMs have a reputation for being slow growing but I think thats more down to bad Genes and stunting the fish in overcrowded fish farms... so hopefully the fry will grow a lot bigger and have much better colors.

I finally got some fire mouths. They're a little beat up but they look really good. I'll post a pic later.

Cool... I'd like everyone to join in and try and breed their FMs and raise breed their best offspring. We can together guide ourselves to raising the quality of these fasinating fish.

Heres a good pic of my breeding male, when he was a bit younger, with a lot of red in his body...

And him just before spawning...

and to illustrate my point about growth... the fish in the middle here is my home grown hybrid Ellioti Firemouth which is only 5 months old flanked by two Full Masked Firemouths a bit older but much smaller

Hes a good 5" in body length.

Here's the best pic I can get of them together. Not sure which is male and female but one has a nuchal hump and is a bit stocky. The other one is more red and has longer fins.
