I received a new pump and plumbed a closed loop for the ugj system. I must say that I am very happy with the way it works now. It provides the exact amount of flow that I was after. Not so much that the fish get blown all over the place yet enough that it keeps anything from settling down on the sand. I have absolutely no waste or food on the substrate.

Here is a picture of the new reeflo blackfin 3600 pump. The reeflo dart is right beside it.

Here is the plumbing going up the side of the tank. Unfortunately I did not leave enough room behind the tank for the plumbing so this was my only option.

Here is the plumbing on top of the tank for the return to the tank.

Looks good man. I built one for my tank about 3 months ago and it works great. I did mine so that my plecos would have good water current and designed it to move most of the waste over to one corner and to where my filter pick ups are. Doing it this way makes for very easy tank cleaning.
I also used silicon to hold my sand to the end of the jets and it works great. After the tank settles you can add more sand around your jets to try to help keep them hidden. I have a bunch of slate caves in my tank and the jets fire off of them and have moved the sand around a bit. I had to add some small pieces of slate in some areas to keep the sand from blowing away and exposing the pvc that is under the sand.

here is a pick of my pleco tank with the UGJ system

and here is one of the jets hidden behind a piece of wood. LoL the plecos play in the jet current all the time.

Your's looks great....!

One question..... (That you may have already answered... if so sorry...!)

What type of paint did you use on the pipe...? Is is fish safe...?

Good Luck...!

I used Krylon Fusion paint, it is aquarium safe.
