Don't yank on it like you are pulling in an anchor on a boat. Tug on it just enough to pinch them. Get over it people! It is just going to teach them they can't pull. You walk the dog, you are in charge, they need to know that.
And people wonder why kids are so out of control. You let them walk all over you just like your dog

cichlid2006;4012075; said:if your voice commands do not control your dog adequately then your not in command and your dog isnt adequately trained. its as simple as that. if you look at any dog that is professionally trained or trained using similar techniques then you will notice that the dog listens to every word uttered, if you cant train a dog to do this then you should seek a professional who can. its basic obedience for a dog to do as its told along with good lead practice. fear of pain should not be used as incentive, fear in any quantity produces biters.
its vital a dog listens to you immediately for road safety or should they decide to harrass a stranger.

A head collar or easy walk harness will give you polite walking results without pain. There are other options out there that are more humane and work well for large dogs.
If you suspect your dog might kill someone then you have a whole nother issue to deal with. A properly fit collar will not just slip off. There are some dogs that have large necks and may have issues with traditional collars. If that is the case they make collars for these types of dogs that work very well. Most greyhounds wear them in fact since they have such a stream line head.

Though my cousin that was attacked and killed by a "trained" dog that never hurt a fly was the cause of a collar slipping off... There are uses for everything in the world sir.
right now your claiming to be the dog whisperer. What happens one day when your dogs brain splits or it has a moment on insanity and decides to attack someone, and the collar slips right off.... Hes going to tell you not to walk him right? lol
You don't know what can happen. Before you know it your having to stab your own dog as he is ripping through someones flesh and cracking their bones.
When you cold have just had the proper tools to control such a lunge from a large dog that could kill a human.
Btw that really didn't happen to my cousin, just to prove a point. It does happen though.
each to his own but this is the reason we own a pronged collar, and i don't find it mean or harmful. I find it very smart. No problem if you don't but i will stab your dog if it attacks me lol.
bahamaqt00;4012053; said:Are you kidding me!? you think a choke collar is better than a prong. Any trainer will tell you that a prong is a better way to go for unruly dogs. If a dog is constantly pulling a choke collar is just going to constantly choke them. They don't release right after you pull on them. A prong collar gives them a quick pinch so they stop pulling for a minute and realize, hey it hurts when I do that. I would love for you to come to my house and try to train my dog with a simple "no" and a normal collar.
