if its for when he barks get a bark shock collar. My mother in law has a small yappy turd of a dog that would bark constantly. One of those shock collars shut her up quick. a few days and no more yappy dog. now even with the collar off, she will just do a little ruff not some big barking fit that will last 30 min or more

depends on the dog, i think. less effective on big dogs.

There is also a citronella spray collar for barking. It doesn't shock them it just sprays harmless cironella and startles them.

I use a harness on my dog and he was wild when we got him from the pound but now he fine. Dogs need a lot of attention when training.

It's not supposed to be used to hurt them! It's only ment to just get the attention of a stubborn dog. It's a tool and not meant to be the entire training regimen. There should be positive reinforcement included as well. I think you need to get a new trainer. I have useed them on both my dogs but I don't yank on them or hurt them. Now that they have improved I've downgraded to choke chains. I tried to downgrade further to regular collars and they instantly went back to choking themselves until they were coughing every five minutes and I want them to be able to enjoy their walks. They just have too much energy! We could walk them briskly for 4 miles and as soon as we come in the door they want to play fetch and run some more. High energy dogs need special care. So now sometimes we'll run them along side a bike to poop them out a bit or put on a back pack with some waters in it to add a little weight while we are walking. It sounds like your dog just has too much energy too. Every dog and owner is different and you should keep trying different things until you find something that works for you guys. If the dog is crying and growling with your current method of training I would say that is a good sign that it isn't working!

Don't like them however mom and pop had a stubborn rottie that they used one on but, that is the only time i remember them using one,and if i remember right was only used for maybe a total of an hour in a week and no longer needed.

Well I came home and the poor guy was running around with the collar on. I brought him in my room and he sat down and started scratching it, for like 2 minutes straight, until I took it off of him...

Like others have stated they are not made to be on at all times. It is a training tool to be used only when training.

i swear by them !!!!! especialy with large dogs ( we have 5 dogs total ) and the metal ones are very blunt and dont hurt the dog they just get thier attention , kinda like swatting tha hand of a two year old child . my large dogs (chow chow and a lab) both will bring the collars to me when they want to go for a walk if it was a bad experience they would not do that , just my opinion

I agree ^^^ It's not causing extreme pain to the dog IF YOU ARE USING THEM CORRECTLY. Which you guys probably are not if the dog is yelping and growling. Don't yank on it like you are pulling in an anchor on a boat. Tug on it just enough to pinch them. Get over it people! It is just going to teach them they can't pull. You walk the dog, you are in charge, they need to know that.

And people wonder why kids are so out of control. You let them walk all over you just like your dog

i use the collar and my dog walks great on it you have to realize a dogs neck is not nearly as sensitive as our neck but my dog never cried or growled on it add a few more links and it should work just fine i like to use mine a little bit big so the pull isnt very intense

I think there good and very helpful I used one on my 100+ lb American bulldog and he now stays right with me or a little ahead of me when I take him out for walks.
