I just read this thread, I love reading these threads about video games, everyone here sounds like a damn shark! A salesman trying to throw you his best sales pitch. I own all three major gaming consoles, and to tell you truth I probably play my 360 more than either the wii or the ps3. The wii follows closely behind, simply because its a quick fix, I can pick up the control and have fun. The PS3 is a good investment in the sense that if you want a blue ray player why not pay the same amount that you would for a blue ray player that only plays blue ray when you can have a gaming console as well for around the same price.
I would suggest playing them both, and for the most part I think it really depends on what kind of games you like, and if you prefer online play versus computer play. There are tons of pros and cons, but it really doesn't matter, what it comes down to is what games are you looking forward to yourself, and what platform you feel more comfortable playing them on. Just make sure you play both of them and weigh your options, since it is an investment.
And rumor has it that Nintendo and Microsoft will be releasing their new consoles sometime in 2010, so hopefully Sony has an answer for that, seeing as how they have been plagued with what most would agree a lack of video game selection. So just make sure you weigh your options, and really buy what you feel suits you best.
