Watertown Zoo Says No To Snakehead Fish : WWNY TV 7

An illegal fish that’s had support from people around the world won’t find a permanent home in Watertown.
The Thompson Park Zoo has been contacted by people who hope a snakehead fish, a species that preys on other fish, won’t be euthanized.
“Rocky the Fish” lives in Clay, but the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation says his owner can’t keep him.
Despite pleas, the Thompson Park Zoo says it won’t add Rocky to its collection either.
“It’s an economically challenging time right now and we have to be very careful that we spend every dollar on activities that support the mission of the zoo and benefit the community,” said zoo director Dr. John Foster.
Any zoo that might want Rocky would need a federal permit to put the illegal species on exhibit.
Dr. foster says he believes Rocky will most likely have to be euthanized.

i did my part signed and sent to every one i know. im gonna hide my lyonsi now keep up the good work chris.

Found the"kill rocky" petition, funny thing is most that have signed it actually are for saving "Rocky":headbang2

Below is the opening statement of the petition:screwy: The sponsor is to much of a coward to actually sign his name.

BTW you can send comments directly to the sponsor by clicking the "Anonymous" link below.:naughty: Though you will have had to sign the other petition or register to send a comment.

Petition to Seize and Destroy "Rocky".

Target:
Department of Environmental Conservation (New York State)

Sponsored by:
Anonymous

For anyone following the "Save Rocky" story originating in Syracuse, New York that feels that the Department of Environmental Conservation should follow the established laws in regards to Snakehead Fish, and thereby seize and destroy this invasive and destructive species, please sign this petition. The law currently reads that snakehead fish are illegal to own in New York since 2004. Since this law is in place, and no "grandfather" clause is established, we the undersigned feel that by allowing Chris Deverso to continue to be in posession of this illegal species is a violation of the law - which he has already pleaded guilty to. This story publically sends the wrong message about the importance of following laws. If Mr. Deverso does not agree with the law, it is his right to fight it through the proper means, but this does not allow him to break the law openly and in the media. It is in his best interest to surrender the species to the DEC and to continue fighting on behalf of his beliefs in a legal manner.
