after adding a bit more salt he has perked up a bit and is swimming around more, my one lfs was out of hydrometers....so I have to go to the other one tomorrow when its open.

Is brackish water hard to setup. I had a few of these a while ago and liked them, but didn't know they were brackish so they died

Right now its just hard because I don't have a hydrometer to keep track of the sg...this is my first attempt at a brackish set up...but he will only be brackish for a while, GsP's need to go to full marine when they are full grown.

umm, I think you would have to find out from your lfs what they are being kept in at the store, if they are in fresh or just a little salt added which is more than likely...I think it would shock the poor little thing...I believe its best work up slowly...bromie88's posts on here were helpful! He might be someone better to ask for details.

finally got the hydrometer and I was using it wrong...figured it all out and over the past 3 days I have gradually raised the sg to 1.008

awesome GSP! i have two of them in my 75 gallon, fully marine, with other misc tank mates. before i got these guys i only had freshwater and as i had them for a little while i started raising the SPG slowly(.002/week as suggested). i started the tank with 2 GSP and 2 Figure 8 puffers since both require brackish as they get older. i did a very very slow change for the sake of the F8's since it doesnt say anything anywhere about them being able to do fully marine, but i figured since they can do mid-high brackish if i did a slow enough change they could handle the fully salt. my tank has been marine for probably 4 to 5 months now, been set up from fully freshwater for about 8 months now i would guess. i didnt know much about brackish or salt going into getting these guys and figured i had time to learn little by little. all of my fish have survived *knock on wood* and havent had any deaths since i set these guys up. i got them when the GSP were about 1 - 1 1/2 inches and the F8's were about 1/2 - 1 inch. now the F8 are about 2 inches and the GSP are now a whopping 3 inches! at least! i love these guys and am very glad i decided to try these guys again. i tried them before but they died and that was before i actually researched thoroughly and found out a lot more info on them. i would post a pic, but everytime i go up to the tank with my camera the puffers go hide, they dont like the camera :(

also i was talking to a guy at my LFS and when i was telling him about my puffers(he is a puffer maniac so he loved the fact i got these guys) he was asking if i started getting the black marks on the puffers, and i have gotten that before but nothing like that too recently, and he informed me that it is lack of salt in the tank and its making them upset. which makes sense because i dont think they have gotten the black on them since i had them at fully marine, but they were getting it while they were still brackish. i will try to sneak some pictures of my puffers so i can post on here

Dat fishy so cute. i want to hold him, squeeze him, hug him, kiss him, and rub noses like bunnies do.:headbang2
