OMG! im srsly 28 nd sotime i act lyke a kid neway!

Seriously, all the factors being discussed here are separate contributors to how mature a poster seems. A perfectly level-headed message can be destroyed by lack of punctuation while a well-crafted and punctuated retort can make a skilled poster sound like an angry child due to perceived attitude issue that may simply be based on a misunderstanding. If you care to check the archives, even the most "mature" poster is susceptible to the occasional seeming lapse in judgment here and there. With, perhaps, the exception of a few extremely level-headed mods, that is.

And we are the mentors. Yes, we are always learning. But as board frequenters it is our duty to welcome new hobbyists, answer their questions responsibly and help them attain the goal of having healthy fish. We're here to educate people, not to condemn them or judge them based on age, gender, race, disability, income level or other social factors. Be a teacher. Don't play know-it-all. And be willing to apologize if you accidentally vent on someone. These are signs of maturity in my book.

People are entitled to their opinions, whether it is right or wrong to voice them in certain situations is questionable. But, this is an online forum. If your being offended by people saying "puking 13 year olds", this will become a good wake-up call for when you reach the real world. Stereotypes can be applied to anyone and most people do them unknowingly. You just have to accept the fact that people will think what they want and you have to be the better person by just shrugging it off.

I don't feel like I'm treated differently here and I'm 17. Its how you respond and react when certain situations occur. Even I'm guilty of loosing my cool and snapping on another member or troll. Which I'm usually remorseful for later (if it was a member).

My opinion on the puking comment, is that I'm not offended by it. To be honest I wouldn't even consider it a stereotype since its not accurate at all. Was he implying we all drink underage and can't hold our liquor or that we are all anorexic?

yes definitly could have use a different way of expressing himself...but most of you totally impress me with your young age.. i bet many of you could teach me something i did not know about fish too...and most of you sound older then your years..like you..."Citrinellus" ... most of you really express yourself in a mature way...

im 13 and i know more about fish then some 30 men on this site and i just hate it when i try to comment on things or try to help and people just blow me off or say i dont know what im talking about cuz im 13 i know that im not the best at fish keeping and i dont have the biges fish tank or the best looking fish but i do have the right to be on this site just like anyone els im not trying to make anyone mad or anything im just letting you know how i feel

I agree that it all just depends on your maturity,Alas I am but a wee lass at almost 15 but I don't really act my age
I work,think before I act and don't feel that there is a need to be a internet warrior,plus I try to be as respectful and beneficial as possible in this hobby to others and myself. It feels as if was just yesterday that I joined this awesome community at the tender age of 11ish,I feel I have matured a lot since then too.


It all really depends on the person and their personality.

People are always pugnacious on forums. If you do something different then the cookie-cutter idea behind things you are judged as a "bad pet keeper" "dumb" this that and the other thing. People need to be open minded for these forums in my opinion..

I feel you, but I don't know what you're talking about, and I don't know whether you know what you're talking about, because out of your 10 posts, you haven't comment on thing or try to help... You were mainly asking question, and noone have blown you off, yet...
