pup not acting right

He is otherwise very healthy looking. He was born last Tuesday (over a week ago) and has been fine. Yesterday morning he was fine...then last night when my husband went to feed them he was doing this. This morning he is struggling a lot more. Highly doubt he'll make it thru the day. :cry:
 
he might hold on for a few more days. if u get him to eat there is hope

i wouldnt do any water changes, clean any filters, etc... just leave the tank alone for a few days
 
Safe to assume the pups are no longer running on the same system as the adults?
 
The pups stay in the same water they were born in and with the parents other than in a different tank. It cycles the same water. It did a water change a little after they were born to clean it up some like i usally do. So we'll have to see what happens. This is our 3 or batch of pups so well keep our fingers crossed.
 
Out of interest what do the water test show - just wondering if ammonia spike or other could do nerve dammage?

That or Chloramine or Chlorine in the water from the water change?

Might just be genetic?

I imagine in the wild that hundreds of pups die off as part of natures natural selection. Sad to see as really nice looking pup with long tail.

I'd get them off the parent's system. My second batch started acting stupid, just like the 1st batch did, moved them and they straightened out within a couple days. I left the 1st batch on the same system till 5/6 were dead. Moved the last one and saved her.

My pups can't handle the parents' system. They have thier own 150 now. 4 pups and a Ghost knife are the only fish in there, although I should get a couple lil cats to clean up in there, maybe that way maybe daily siphonings could be avoided.
 
I age my water for awhile before i do water changes. No ammonia ph good and nitrite is in good shape also. I guess losing one isnt to bad out of the other batches we had. Not that it doesnt bother me because it sucks for the little guy but what do you do you know. I havent done a water change since Wed. last week. Only thing i can do is wait. Thanks for all the insite and hope for the best.

Not really sure.... I don't do a whole lot of water testing, I'm one of those raykeepers with perfect water I never have ammonia or nitrite. Nitrate? What's that? No thanks never had it....:ROFL::screwy::banhim: Kidding of course, but not about the fact I don't test.

I can't explain it. All I know is my pups can't deal with it. I personally think it's just spikes associated with regular feedings. I don't feed overly heavy, just have some big rays. Feedings are between 1 and 2 lbs depending on the frequency (everyday, or every other. Ponds around 800 gallons. I push between 150 and 250 gallons of new w)ater through there a DAY via drip system, so obviously spikes aren't caused from WCs. Have 6 rays in there.....

All I know is IF I left my pups on the pond system I doubt I'd have any left after the 1st month. Each time the pup tank has had it's own filter and a pump pushing pond water through.... Both times pups started acting stupid within 3 days to a week of being born.
