You don't need the buffer, unless you are using SW or you have fish very sensitive to minor pH change. Most users don't use buffer.

Hey ewurm, I think you've got that backwards.

For freshwater use, soak for 4 hours with a solution containing 1 tablespoon of buffer per cup of water (Discus Buffer™, Neutral Regulator™, or Acid Buffer™). Original color and full activity should now be restored and Purigen™ is ready for reuse.

The seachem site recommends a buffer to reduce the PH of purigen after recharge if you're using it on Fresh. Bleach has a pretty high PH, so on salt it won't do to much (so they say.) But on systems that need to keep PH down adding something soaked in bleach will deffinatly raise the PH.

Or maybe I'm wrong, havn't had enough coffee to get through the morning haze yet.

I've never had a problem with pH in my tank. I just drop it into there when I am done. Speaking of which, that is what I am going to do right now.

I just bought some Purigen myself. When I visited manufacturer's website, I thought I read a warning about using this and products that replenish a fish's slime coat causing toxic effects.

It renders the Purigen non regenerable. That is why you should use Prime.

does anyone know how long it *should* take for purigen to be used up/ need to be recharged?

im running two peguin 350's on my 75. i just bought one 100ml pac and placed it at the end of my filtration in in the filter (right before the bio wheel) is this and apropriate place? should i get more ?

No idea on your first question, I believe the heavier your bio-load the quicker it needs recharged.

I'm using 250ml on my 75. I also put it after the mechanical filteration, keeps most of the gunk away from it.

I'm seeing decent results from it, after a week my nitrates are ususaly around 25-30ppm, this week it was only at 12ppm.

You are running the exact same setup I am running. (2 350s on a 75, purigen in the 350)

Check it every other day, it should take about 2 weeks depending on your fish load. What is your bioload?

It will need charging depending on how much nitrate, etc is in your tank.

i may get another pack, because i do have a heavy load (a mid sized clown knife and large tinfoil)

just one day after putting it in it's getting a little discolored. but on the plus side my snails are becoming active again.

good to hear
