cant wait to see the "purple sunfish" that you calm to have seen and caught...i am not doubting you in anyway but am very curious as to what it can be too...xD

Just be sure the river which you speak of isnt stocked with trout all rivers streams and creeks in ct with trout are closed until the third saturday in april. So it would be illegal to take anything or even have a line or net in the water. That being said im still curious as to purple sunfish. Which river systwm are they in?

It doesn't look like the river is stocked with trout. It's called Wadsworth falls in Middletown, CT

Battery powered airstone and a five gallon bucket should be okay for 30 mins. When transporting fish long distances, I usually use a cooler (more stable water temp and larger surface area for gas exchange).

I decent quality picture will be worth a thousand words, and we'll finally be able to help you without a bunch of guesses.

My bucket filter/airstone. Pop bottle filled with established bb filter floss or sponge.

It helps to have the bucket established with some slimmy sides. Otherwise when they freak out and swim in circles they scrap their slime coat up. Then it is prone to fungus. Salt also helps.
Some pics to tide you guys over.

I ended up moving all my sunnies out of my show tank. They are just plain mean. Especially longears and pumpkins. Move most agressive out and another will take over. They picked on my crappie and shiners also. Good luck with the purple mystery sunnie.
