Putting together a 600 gallon

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Outstanding, that thing is a beast haha. Thanks so much for the detailed explanation and pictures. I am building a stand for my new tank with the same footprint and when I saw the two large openings, that design looked like a great fit.

I run bioreactors on all my tanks and am also planning on using a large amount of the seeded media I have with thin film layer built up already to jump start my new reactor/tank. Ive been curious as to how long it would take to fully build up the TFP with all new media was why I asked. Ive read its in the range of 6 - 12 weeks but most of the application is geared toward large water volume koi ponds instead of large heavily stocked aquariums.

Reed here is a picture of the stand for the 330 from Coolmbu. Gives a better idea on what is there. The center brace was removed and that is why I ran more 2x6's down the center on the 330.

For the 600 where the openings have been cut into the stand there was only 2 - 2x4's running from under the tops 2x6's to the 2x4's on the on the floor.

Think I figured out my plumbing issue.

Of course couldn't have been a bad joint in the plumbing...no it has to be a split bulkhead! Sad part is I don't kill them when tightening them up. Finger tight then a slight nudge with a pair of channel locks, and I mean slight. So after taking a swim and pulling out the return line in the overflow making a new one after tracking down the 1" adapter at 3 stores and 3 suburbs later it is all back together.

Will update the whole plumbing setup later tonight once it is fully running.

ITS ALIVE! Didn't get it running last night after fixing one leak I found 2 more:banghead:. That was an easy fix compared to the bulkhead. Should have a nice big update tomorrow.

Definitely adding some driftwood and plants to the tank. So much more room to work with just trying to figure out exactly how I want to do it.
