Putting together a 600 gallon

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Man, that is brutal. Glad to see you got it fixed. Other than this setback, the tank and plumbing look awesome.

In case you ever have to replace another bulkhead, I would recommend looking into the Schedule 80 PVC bulkheads. They are a bit more expensive, but in my opinion they are well worth it; they are much stronger and they come with an O-ring that's twice as thick as the standard bulkheads so they hardly ever leak. The only potential issue is that they require a slightly larger hole than standard bulkhead fittings, so you would just need to make sure they fit.

In any case, awesome setup!

+1 on the bulkhead and subscribing to this thread for updates :)

A little Saturday update on the tank. Mybluem3 stopped by and dropped off a few goodies. Had 3 silver dollars dropped off along with 3 clown loaches. The silvers will go with the rest of the large ones in the 600, and the loaches will go into the smaller tank next to the 600.

And for new toys had a 1000 watt heater dropped off since my 800 watt heater was the only thing that did not survive the trip back from Michigan when we picked up the tank. For my final big expense on the tank is a Neptune Apex AquaController.
That should keep me busy for a little bit.:D

awesome tank

Here is a small update on the tank as it sits right now.
Quick shot of the drain lines from the tank to the sump. All the drains and returns have threaded ball valves invade the sump needs to be removed for any reason.

Next is the bio reactor on the right which recieves water from one of the hy drive 4800's. The water from the reactor drains back to the sump via gravity.

Inside shot of the reactor. The small 90 is what feeds the reactor water and the larger pvc is the gravity return. Inside the reactor will house 2 cubic feet of ultima 2 plastic media. Which is kept happy by 4 large airstones placed at the bottom the reactor. The air pump used for this is an EasyPro EPW4 pushing about 1.8 cubic feet of air through the media.

Small update on the tank. After some help from Pharaoh and Tanglovers I have the drip system up an running. Thanks to both of them for the info on the filters. Right now it is running at 75 gallons per day. Also hooked up the Neptune Aquacontroller. Spent a little time on the phone with them getting everything reset to factory settings. All I can say is this company is amazing. This was the original system that was attached to the tank at Coolmbu's house but had passed thru one other owner before coming to me. After giving them access to my network they where able to connect to it and give me a quick run thru of it. No charge, can't beat that. Will post more pics once I clean everything up.

RE: The Neptune Aquacontroller - how do you like it? Can you get info to your smart phone? What are you monitoring? Temps? Is it worth it for a fresh water set up or just a fun tech toy kinda thing?

I love this thing. Yes you can get info to your smart phone or over the net. They have an iphone app but are currently finishing an android app. I am mainly monitoring temps as the tank is in the garage and if I have a heater failure I will know via email and text. I know Todd (coolmbu) prurchased the system after losing a couple rays to a heater failure. The system is also controlling lights, my pumps, temps on the second tank, ph. There is so much more this system can do but being a noon to it I am still learning the endless possibilities of what it can control and do. Totally worth it to me for my rays. I believe they just came out with a leak detection sensor for tanks also.
