what he said. lol, if reds are more readily available, i'd go with those. If you don't mind the lil bit of extra dough, caribe and piyaras if they can be hunted down are great also. pretty much the exact same care as red bellies. Rhoms are pretty and a great show piece if you can find something you like. You do the poor man route like me and it'll take forever. I swear i've had this rhom for 6 months and it's only put on 2 inches.

reds will probably get darker as they age but you're still looking at a 5+ year old fish unless you just bought them already full grown to see their colors. mine are all probably between 6-8 inches and even though they're darker then most people i see on here...they're no where near as dark as the ones in those pics and vids...even with black substrate and background
 
Yeah. I emailed aeaquatics and give them this thread link to see the video. Gonna see if they can get me one close to those features. Also looked at super reds. I don't know much about these fish other than rhoms. And id buy it as a juvenile to save money. I don't have a lot of money. I'm doin this on a budget. Is why I'm trading one big tank for 2 smaller. I need the 2 smaller more than one. Big @tm. Caribe and piyara r nice also but haven't seen ne.
 
The reds around here aren't cheap. Only one store has em and he has 2. About 3 inches or so and wants 45 a pc. That's not happening
 
how much time do you think you'll have until you can get the 150g ish tank?
if you are going to have two tanks as grow out (55g and 50g) then you can get 3-4 in each and move them to 150g once you get it.
with cariba your best bet will be wait until next year around summer time, that's when they will be cheap. probably around $20-30 plus shipping.

my local stores have started getting trade in and have been attempting to unload them for 30-40 bucks at like 4 inches. Yet, they'd only give me 15 bucks total for trade in for all 4 of mine at 6-8 inches. cheap b*******. i was going to see if they'd take my reds and cut the price of their elonge for me (160 bucks)
 
I dunno jp. Nothing on craigslist within an hour either way of me. Going to have to spread the search but no need really until I have the dough. Yeah ballin I know what u mean. Lfs's love to rip people a new ass. The one here who has the 2 rbp's is some asian dude and he always says everything is out of season and charges out the ass. He has some ok deals I guess but he is high mostly.
 
Ill take ur 6-8 in reds if u wanna ship them to tennessee. And ill beat the stores price! 20 for all 4! Lol
 
you can always get a 300g rubbermaid stock tank, do a crazy shoal and put underwater camera in there and enjoy it on big screen tv
 
if i get into the breeding projects like I want I will get a couple of those stock tanks. I'm still thinking what species. I did however read where a few species of rhoms have been breed in home aquariums. Need to find the site and see which ones.
