I am anal about not wanting to see poop in the tank so I use my kleensweep daily. Water changes for me are simply a water change as the tank is already poop free OR I am using my vac as the water is drained anyway

I'm with soulpatch on that one...I keep the tank clean in between changes, so water changes are just a matter of sticking the hose in so that its sitting just as deep as I want the water to drain to. Then I can start the siphon and walk away...it'll stop when it gets down to the level I want it to drain to (I still keep an eye on it, but theoretically...I could just leave). Once its drained I make sure the hose is out of the water and run the sink to get the temperature right (digital kitchen thermometer) and then just flip the valve on the python and it starts filling. When its almost done filling (basically once I get the filters running again) I dose it with tetra aquasafe (pretty sure thats the product) and go about my merry way.

I dont think anyone like poop in their tank as Decor Lol. I just cant clean the tank daily (probly wouldnt either Lol) so I have a lot of current as my FX5 picks up most of it :D.

I guess everyone has their routine and what works for them

Yeah, I'm not as good about cleaning EVERY day as I'd like to be, but I do have my current set up now (in the 65) in such away that all the crap collects in one small convenient spot (for the most part). And now that I don't have to get a siphon going & do a top-off just to clean a bit of poop, I do it a lot more often than before.

I am awaiting santa to bring me a powerhead so that I too can have my current shift the poop to a better spot in the tank. I just prefer to clean out as much as I can daily so that I dont have to worry about cleaning the FX5 or the XP4 filters for quite a while. My oscars are MESSY though and cleaning the tank allows me to sleep better.

Plus that 10 minutes to vac it is nothing. The tank is in the living room so the TV is on and it gives me my zen moment of the day to be with my fish and away fromthe wife. HA HA

i had a problem with mine leaking due to the threads, little bit of thread tape and she leaks no more going 3 years strong

Hahaha +1. The ONLY thing that keeps me from doing it religiously is cleaning the mesh bag when I'm done. I've made one attempt at converting the mesh bag to a large piece of thick clear tube with holes drilled in it. But I drilled holes all the way around and the crap just fell out the bottom (I thought the holes were small enough, they were not).

I think if I go back and just drill the portion that will face the surface it might work better....or the crap will just push itself up & out:\ Trouble is of course, I don't have my own drill, so I have to go borrow dads to do it which just slows me down:\

Yeah. I think subconsciously I've been on a mission to be capable of fully maintaining my tanks (as far as daily & weekly regular maintenance) without getting my hands in the tank & without getting water all over the place.

I'm ordering another smartheater soon for my 55g, I might just go ahead and throw in the kleen sweep just see if its any better than my DIY version...if nothing else it'll certainly look nicer than my pvc contraption:p I have a problem sometimes that water will skip the T outlet and spit a bit straight out the back :\
