Queens man arrested for transport of Arowanas

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
They feds would have had to keep them in the beg as evidence and would have left it there as it is... if they wanted to catch the guy red handed.. they needed to have the asian arowana in there..... it truly is a sad story...

Either way.... the guys is probably right about it being bull... there are thousands available in the market, its only because congress has better stuff to do to actually focus attention a species of fish..

Ya who cares if they become extinct in the wild, as long we can have them in are tanks, right?

Good point zerojquan85, I think the U.S. should let the asian aros be legal to purchase, by only farm raised aro breeders. And perhaps have a season from which you can buy and the rest of the year off limits or something. I'm sure there is a way it can be worked out considering the rest of the world can purchase from breeders!

I think that b/c the ban is in place that if the feds can not place the so called endangered animals in proper care. that the charges against the person should be dropped. B/c the laws are in place to prtect the population of the animals and if the feds who enforce the laws can not keep the seized animals alive what's the point in enforcing the laws when they did anyways.

It would be interesting to see what happened to the surviving fish though. I know that our local aquarium here in Colorado has 8-9 asian aros, I would think that homes were found for any that survived and the other four that were taken for this criminals home.

BTW any of the fish that died, it is the fault of this POS smuggler not the Feds. I hope he gets the full 33 months, since he is too stupid to have learned the first time.

These fish are worth thousands, the US market is huge. There would be a good part of the asians sold that were illegally obtained wild collected and smuggled in by POS as this guy did.

This would not be good for wild populations.

Nooooo BDerick67! Didn't mean it that way. Of course I want them to flourish in the wild!

There are also programs that allow the sale so that the demand can be lowered. And there are some success stories where for every one sold money can be put back in protecting the environment for these animals. None of these actions have been explored enough.

Ahh, that's terrible!!!!!! I bet that man who got arrested would have kept them alive and happy, but the darn feds who had no idea what the heck they were doing killed them!! I think animal rights needs to get involved, people suck!

why smuggle them in??...are theese fish illegal in the US? wasnt there a post about having paper work and collecting without permits???...i guess this is what can happen to people that chose to believe that is is there god given right to keep aquarium fish!!! still unfortunate to have such majestic creature die for no reason!!

This is why anyone thinking a buying a smuggled in animal should be lectured no matter how much they think how good they will take care of it.

It seem that people who want to buy an illegal animal do not understand the stress done to the animal being smuggled in.

Do you have any links to these progams or success stories. As asian aros have been banned for over 30 years and are still endangered.
