Question about filtering a 400 Gallon Tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I use strips of rubber mats to absorb the reverberations. These are nearly silent and running on floating 3/4” ply so they would be super loud otherwise. Hope that helps. I have a about 60’ liniar feet left. LMK if you can’t find anything else and I’ll find a way to get you some.

Rice was a NO - GO.... I was thinking about hanging the pump from Bungees inside the stand- lol... I read a thread online somewhere that said if you place the pumps on the ground and not in the stand - they are very quiet. My Intention is to go home after work tonight and relocate the pump outside the stand (behind it) on the floor and see if that helps. I have about a foot between the stand and the back wall. Still not running it as its crazy loud!

As for your offer of rubber mat - If nothing else works , I will happily buy it from you and pay shipping to see if it helps.

PPS - Posting a build thread (all pics) right now. I will post a link when done =)

JK47 - I got a few questions bro. I finally got that reeflo / ultima set up working today. Looks like I got a tiny leak from the seal of the reeflo - so I guess I need to order a seal... yay....

I wanted to ask - is there anything special I need to do when I 1st get that Ultima filter going? I had it in filter mode, then swapped it to recirculate for a while, then back to filter mode again (unplugged pump between swapping). Do i need to do anything else?

I for the valve after the pump about 75% open. The 2 FX5's combined output is More than the reeflo lol. Anyway - at least its quiet now that I moved the pump onto the floor and outside the stand.

Any thoughts man> Thanks, Arkangel77

PS - After 7 hrs of running the facecloth i placed under the pump is wet. Not dripping but wet for sure! I just ordered a seal kit from reeflo (2 actually) but with the holidays, it will likely be the end of next week b4 I can get this ultima up and going again. For now its valves are closed and we will just have the FX5s going. I hope its not anythingmore sinister....

If its not one thing its Two. Murphy's law and all - lol

This happened to me too. Frustrating to say the least. It was actually on me though. Did you use thread sealant? Plumbers tape is supposed to be used on these pumps per Reeflo. Make sure you don’t over tighten them as well.

I’ve never had an issue since switching to pipe dope and have set up four that way over the last few months.

i did use thread tape, I can actually see water - wetness, a drip from the metal shaft area, the water dose not seem to be coming from the fittings as best I can tell

Hey JK47 ,

Just to kinda fallow up. Took a while with the holidays but I got that seal kit in and installed it on Sunday, Tried to set everything back up yesterday but found a few more leaks. One was a threaded nipple on the inlet of the pump which just needed more Teflon tape. The other was the back-flush port of the filter, no matter how much Teflon tape I used it still dripped... In the end I used some Loctite High Temp Thread sealant which seemed to do the trick. I was finally able to get the Ultima running last night. I guessed on the flow and now we will see how it works =).

The Reeflo pump dose seem to make a louder hum than the 2 FX5's do - But its not horrible. May try a piece of rubber like you did. Where did u get the mat that u cut up for pads under the Pump? Or what kinda mat was it I guess?

Thanks, Arkangel77
