Have you read the sticky of mine on S. vortens? It was posted in 2010, first post has a link to the same angel fish paper. Last post has a link to a more recent paper. I've probably posted more about this parasite on fish forums over the past 10 years than everyone else on the web combined. lol

Good luck with the microscope.

I got the microscope today and had a look at a few feces this evening. I found quite a few things I wasn't expecting.

First thing I noticed was what appeared to be some kind of worm eggs. Also found some larger worms cruising around but I am not sure is they are an internal parasite or not just yet. I believe it could be from the tank and they were feeding on day old poop and I caught them on the scope.

The eggs look to be capillaria eggs almost 100% of this, they look just like the image from the link below. But the worms i found look rounder then I would of expected... Either way I ordered some Levamisole HCL which I will use to treat after I do another round of metro.

I found VERY FEW s.vortens but indeed spotted some remaining ones. I did find a fair bit of these guys though (protoopalina). Apparently they are often found in the intestines of fish with s. vorten. I am surprized though because metro is said to take care of them. I feel like maybe the metro I used was possibly expired or something. Not sure though.

So for now I am going to get new metro and start dosing food and water column. keep doing fecal samples weekly till I can get the parasite numbers low / gone. Then give Kai a break for a week followed up with de-wormer treatment.

Having bought the microscope has giving me more information about what is going on. The lack of s. vorten makes sense at this time though as pitting never got worse other than the one spot. The spot as of the last few days is looking really good, literally almost gone now. So that's the good sign!

As far as the big worms I saw in the one stool sample I will have to keep digging for information as nothing I found online looked like the worms I saw. I also don't know how dangerous protoopalina is but i am going to try and kill it none the less. Or at least reduce its numbers.

I kind wish I got the microscope camera to show you all what I found but it was an extra fair bit of money and this fish is getting super expensive already ;)

At least now you have a better idea of what you are up against.

I respect the lengths you have gone for your green terror. Many wouldn't give this amount of time or resources to their fish.
