Question: Cycling a tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i just grab water from another tank and fill it 1/2 full and then tap water the other half its easy when you have alot of tanks :naughty:

Taking a leak in your tank would provide ammonia directly, with feeding your tank you have to wait for the food to start breaking down.

I have cycled 4 tanks of my own with the method above, it is what i recommend.

Human urine is different than fish urine. Human urine contains very little ammonia (unless your liver is shot). Instead, it contains high concentrations of urea and nitrate. So, I don't think it will work well for this purpose. But, then again, I haven't tried it.

You know....just can't see the peeing thing.....letting the tank cycle naturally is great or if you want to help it along try "cycle" from LFS that contains seed colonies of yeah if you have multi tanks that works as well

how do you know when a tank is done cycling or safe to add fish?

you get zero ammonia, nitrites, and very little nitrates after a period of very high ammonia and nitrites. plus your water wont be cloudy anymore.

i setup a new 4' yesterday morning, had the fish in on the night time and today the water is crystal clear and none casualties, dont know why people have to worry so much about cycling their tank. Just like the nike logo "just do it":headbang2

In the interest of providing assistance to my fellow aquariasts, I will once again recommend Seachem Stability. I have used it...it is an excellent, inexpensive and almost effortless product and will cycle your new tank WITH fish in it. You can trust me on this.

i set the tank up mid afternoon and 5hrs later the fish were in and they still ok, does it really matter about all this cycling lark, i mean why use chemicals when you can just do it naturally. do the fish in the wild pop into their lfs for some chems to sort their lakes or ponds out lol weekly water changes will sort it out, just like rain in the wild.
