If I fill up a 10 gal with about 7 gals of water from a well established tank and top it off with a fresh tap water then use a HOB that has been running for months on another tank would there be any need to cycle the tank.

I spend most of my spare time aiming at perfect water params, setting up another tank feels great!
it does feel good to setup a new tank, its allways good to have cycled tanks and filters to start off with as it speeds things up 10fold

We have tried to get people to say that you cycle the filter instead of the tank but it is a lost cause. Of course you two can carry the torch for a while until you are both blue in the face and your fingers are bleeding stubs.
