* Question for Hardcore Aro owners!?!?!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
For me, it all depends on the situation and type of aro. If it was a very very expensive aro, I would want to make sure it's perfect, but I wouldn't randomly trim fins because I felt like they needed to be bigger. I would fix flaws like broken or uneven fins or a very bad case of drop eye. I'm ok with it having a(n) minor/average degree of drop eye, but I've seen cases where the aros eye looks like its about to fall out of its head. On a silver or a less expensive aro, the only modificattion I would do is on the fins if it happend to be broken or very uneven. In both cases, I would find someone else to do it...I don't trust myself with sharp objects :D

psshhh you probably have never owned a REALLY expensive fish then hu?
:nilly:

nope. but if i had an asian arowana with unperfect finnage i would take all risks to get them to look the best.
the guy that cut his aros tail in the video said that theres an 80% chance of success. his aro grew back to original beauty

Interesting that an 80% survival rate is acceptable for you, what about everybody else? 80% is not high enough for me if it was a fish worth a coupe of thousand dollars.

but how does the operator come up with that percentage?

Gr8, i thought about doing it. when i got one of my silvers a little over 2 years ago, i grabbed him completly wrong and ripped up his top fins along his tail. such a mistake on my part. i feel like i robbed him of his beauty and he deserved to be "fixed". i did tons of research, and found out exactly what i needed to do. but i never went through with it.

not because i was afraid for the fish's health as i thought in my mind i was only doing the upper fin, and i didn't think it would take more then 5 minutes once out of the water. but i just didn't have a healing tank for 1 aro over 20" to be in by himself while his fins healed back to its original beauty. i knew if i tossed him back into my main tank with missing fins, someone else would for sure start pickin on him where the cut fins would be.

i never did the procedure, and his fin is still completly messed up. i feel bad, but he seems to not care one bit lol.

If it is for the health of the Aro, then by all means get out the "VISA" and get the surgery on!

However if it is purely for cosmetic reasons I say no.

I belive to get a perfect Aro, it must start from day one, good genetics, perfect H2O, No injuries, no illness etc...
a natural thing maybe?

Agreed...100%.

For some reason, it makes me cringe just watching those vids sometimes. If it had to be done to one of my aros, I know I wouldn't want to watch it.

I also agree, I would like to avoid these procedures if possible, but some things happen that are just out of our control.

Btw, Did the guy from the video say those procedures have an 80% success rate or an 80% survival rate because those are 2 totally different things.

if i owned an arow, i would do my best to keep him from damaging his fins. but if tht fails and a fin is damaged i can live with it... no cosmetic surgery for me thanx
