Question for people over 50, also anyone else who's got input.

cant compare as there's no point. those that do are the ones that are stuck in the old days. i have a desk job in the corporate world. those that say im lazy because im not out in the sun sweating are full of it. any monkey can swing a hammer, pick fruit, dig holes, turn a wrench, push a lawnmower etc etc. but it takes a whole lot more to succeed in the new business world.

well, aparently i'm just a 27 year old hammer swinging monkey, but i don't so much think it's a white collar vs. blue collar argument. i feel it's more of a "i deserve more than i have" vs. "i work for what i have" type of ordeal.

I view it as workload distribution. Not everybody can be doing the same thing. And folks gravitate to the type of work most suitable for their Physical, Intelectual, Psychological, and/or Educational aptitudes/needs. The world works better that way.

If we are all digging holes who will be filling them up?;)

We'll end up with one big hole in space! Think about it!:WHOA:

Lol, I think the thread is going towards a different point entirley, but that's okay, it's a forum right? lol.

What I was originally trying to say is, this new generation is weak compared to the ones of the past. I know people might think they work hard, but they are judging this by todays standards, but they should honestly picture themselves back in the early 1900's. Would they be able to pull their wight work wise? I'm pretty sure there are alot of people nowadays who couldn't.

we are soft yes...because we have so many more conviences then generations past... and easier all the time... we should never under estimate humans though...when push comes to shove they would be there..doing what they have to do.. survival is what kicks in...

The hard labourer might say, "sure, I'll have a shot at fixing your machine, just as long as you finish that concreting over there while I'm away." lol.
Having a shot at fixing something that keeps someone alive is much different than screwing up a sidewalk. FWIW, I can pour concrete. I've leveled it from a truck, poured it from a Massey Ferguson 1130, and mixed it in buckets.

There is something to be said for each job.

You can't tell me you have to be tough to be able to fix a piece of medical equipment? Sure it would take skill, but I don't think being able to do that makes you tough.

Physical? No it's not tough.

But keep in mind that if you fail, someone is dead.
Real time. No time to plan.

i think it would be very tough if fixing it right depended on someone living or dying because of the way you fixed it.. it takes courage to have responcibility ... and responcibility is tough...

whats all this "im so tough" talk. its really silly and pointless if you ask me. and if youre saying that people today are physically "weak", i find that absurd too.

and lastly, you can act as tough as you want, but at the end of the day, THE MIND IS MORE POWERFUL THAN A BICEP
