Question why do people feal the need to use the word retard?

I can't speak for everyone who has posted, but for myself it isn't an issue of not feeling sympathy for others. It is a word, thats it. Like others have said it all really depends on the context. I would never try to attack someone who is mentally handicapped, this I feel would fit your scenario. I have met many mentally handicapped individuals and am constantly amazed by thier sincerity, honesty, and aboslute joy they exude.
A lot of words start out with one meaning and then end up with multiple as the culture and environment around us changes. The only constant thing in life is change, you can either learn to deal with it or live in a bubble.
It all comes down to a choice in the end....in my younger years I was constantly tormented and attacked for being something that I wasn't. I could of let the hurtful words ruin my life, but I didn't. I rose above it and learned who my true friends were and to be myself no matter what. Everyone judges, but there is really only one opinion that matters.

This is partly one of The things im trying to make happen. But ive sents messages to mods. and word hasnt been blocked banned. So i made a thread its 10 pages wrong. Mods have posted in it. It evedently bothers more people then just me just not the majority of it. Maybe this thread will bring some light to the subject and get people thinking twice about useing the word next time. and maybe it will get the mods to make a rule on it
