Question why do people feal the need to use the word retard?

if the word retard or retarded gets banned, might as well ban the words idiot, dumb, stupid and similar words because they all do the same thing

i respectfully disagree with you wickedmidas, and i do have people close to me with disabilities

Totally agree with this.

OP, instead of going on some word banning crusade on the internet, why not teach your son to be proud of himself, to respect himself, to be comfortable in his own skin? Teach him that it doesn't matter what other people think or what other people say. Teach him that he and he alone is in control of his own happiness. Happiness doesn't come from external sources, it comes from within. People are going to do what they want to do, you have no control over that. You do have control over what you teach your son.
 
As i mentioned earlyer in the thread. I just got custody of him last sept. Hes been living with me for a year now. Before that it was 8 years with his mom. She babied him. Im in process of trying to tuffin him up. But If you no people with cerebral palsey . Most that i have met anyway. Seem like there alittle more sensitive feeling wise versus a person who dont have cerebral palsey. They love everyone are useualy the most polite and nicest people you will ever meet. But there feelings get hurt easy. Hes going to be 17. He was in a great school with great people and kids normal school but its a charter school And the teachers staff are great. But since his surgery hes going to a hospital for schooling therapy. He needs more time with kids his own age. But that dont change the point that the word has been used to put people down and that the forum realy isnt a place that it should be used.

I used to have a hell of a mouth( tamed because of my wife) and I openly use any and every word. I dont care. You give words meaning. Get over it. I have 2 g@y uncles(blood not in relationship) and a good friend on here that is. I would never use slurs tword them but use it still.

Funny, op, you get your pantys in a bunch over a common word( to the point you threatened someone) but let me ask you, what do you call native americans? $50 you say indians. Dont lie you do. Hypocrite. Indians are in india. Native americans( or even american indians) are here.


You give words thier power. Words unless we give them it, truly have no words or power.

Next I would assume you are going to attack the word, "idiot"? That means a mentally deficient person. At what point are you going to stop? I am crippled but I don't get PO when the news talks about a crippled airplane, ship or anything else . Come on this could go on forever. Read JCardona post again and quit worrying about what everyone else writes to someone else.
 
remember when people were getting offended by the pics you posted of your pet fish beheaded and BBQed? a few people got offended and you went on a rant and added it as your avatar...then made other threads about it until you got banned? you did not care about what other people thought when the mods were telling you people found it offensive......why are you on a high horse about the use of a slang word but you went out of your way to continue to offend people with the whole fish eating thing?

man, i know you're brighter then that. just keep being a good dad and doin your thing. everyone in this thread has said it'd FUBAR to call someone with a disability a retard and it's just slang and they mean nothing by it.
